I almost got hit this morning. Seriously, like the guy didn’t yield at all. And then when he did finally stop, he honked and threw up his hands in the air. I did the same, frantically pointing in the air and towards the ground to the yield sign I thought was there (to be fair, the one in question that’s in the picture above, was on two posts before the turn off, but there was seriously no where else for bikes, nor him, to turn right in that area, sooo…). Anyway, in frustration I finally yelled “YIELD!!” at the top of my lungs and then got on my merry way as he continued to honk and gesticulate angrily.
On my way back from Karlaplan (Valhalla was closed, boo), I checked for the sign that I never once had looked for, but I knew was there since I’ve never, EVER had a problem with cars yielding to the bike lane at that turn off (I think cars are supposed to always yield to the dashed line in a bike lane, unless there’s signage stating otherwise). It was there, but as stated above, it was a bit earlier than the actual spot. Whatever. He should have known, and I’m glad that I’m still here. Thank you, God.
On my way to Hallwyl later on this morning, a girl hopped out in front of moving traffic at a crosswalk on a GREEN LIGHT (for us). By moving traffic, I mean me, so I dinged my bell and threw up my hands. She kind of stopped and let me pass, which I later thought wasn’t good since she could have been in greater danger from cars, but then again, I would have hit her and then we would have been in basically the same position (but slightly better off, I guess). I guess people see the sun and all of a sudden go a bit crazy. Whatever, just gotta keep my cool, especially since tourist season is just starting to ramp up so I’ll have to be extra careful of people who don’t seem to know the difference between a bike lane and the sidewalk.
