over it

that's right, folks. i'm over it.

I’m now the proud owner of a new bicycle! Yaaay. The price was right and she’s just the right size, so I went ahead and said yes. She’s adorable (prospective name: Gunilla), although there’s a tiny bit of work that needs to be done. I hope that’ll get taken care of this week (or at least start to get taken care of… I see this as an on-going project).
Anyway, I think I’ll take her out once it stops raining (which will be…?) and in the meantime, I’ve figured out how to raise the seat on Hedvig, so at least my knees will be happy for the time being!

I kind of want a pair of these. I wasn’t really convinced with the silver ones, but these gold babies are seriously tempting…

It’s finally summer-ish! Hedvig and I took a little spin this morning out to Ropsten/Lidingö. I had never biked that direction before, so it was a new experience for the both of us (and a pleasant one at that). View high resolution

Overheard this Weekend

 • Guy: You're different.
 • Me: Like special?
 • Guy: No, just different.

Today

Today was fun. I was at Berns for the Beckman’s final runway show, then out in Kungsträdgården for some sun and socializing with two of my coworkers, and then finally some more socializing with the same folks at Ramblas (we could finally sit outside!). It was really nice, a ton of tun, but I’m super tired. That’s the thing with summer, the days are so long that it makes you feel like you can keep doing stuff long after you should have quit.

Oh, and I was photographed by a fashion blogger outside of Berns! She’s from Mozambique, so I’m interested to see if my picture makes it up to her site.

Conscious Decision

I’m not bicycling during early morning rush hour ever again. Yesterday morning, I was like “Sure, why not? It’s nice out, might be pleasant.” It was so the opposite of that. Everybody and their mother was out since it’s nice weather, so the lanes were super crowded and it was impossible to pass people since you yourself was getting passed. I almost turned around and went home at one point but I decided to stick it out since I knew the pack would thin dramatically after hitting the city. Blah.

Whatever, I’m not making that mistake again. Rush hour in the city? You can take it.

I almost got hit this morning. Seriously, like the guy didn’t yield at all. And then when he did finally stop, he honked and threw up his hands in the air. I did the same, frantically pointing in the air and towards the ground to the yield sign I thought was there (to be fair, the one in question that’s in the picture above, was on two posts before the turn off, but there was seriously no where else for bikes, nor him, to turn right in that area, sooo…). Anyway, in frustration I finally yelled “YIELD!!” at the top of my lungs and then got on my merry way as he continued to honk and gesticulate angrily.
On my way back from Karlaplan (Valhalla was closed, boo), I checked for the sign that I never once had looked for, but I knew was there since I’ve never, EVER had a problem with cars yielding to the bike lane at that turn off (I think cars are supposed to always yield to the dashed line in a bike lane, unless there’s signage stating otherwise). It was there, but as stated above, it was a bit earlier than the actual spot. Whatever. He should have known, and I’m glad that I’m still here. Thank you, God.
On my way to Hallwyl later on this morning, a girl hopped out in front of moving traffic at a crosswalk on a GREEN LIGHT (for us). By moving traffic, I mean me, so I dinged my bell and threw up my hands. She kind of stopped and let me pass, which I later thought wasn’t good since she could have been in greater danger from cars, but then again, I would have hit her and then we would have been in basically the same position (but slightly better off, I guess). I guess people see the sun and all of a sudden go a bit crazy. Whatever, just gotta keep my cool, especially since tourist season is just starting to ramp up so I’ll have to be extra careful of people who don’t seem to know the difference between a bike lane and the sidewalk. Rip van Winkle

Today I slept for hours even though it was 16ºC outside and the sun was begging me to do otherwise. Oh well, I needed the rest, I suppose.

I think it’ll be the same tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll make it outside of the house. Fingers are firmly crossed.

Radio #1

Today was busy. I made a crapload of food and had some guests over, plus went to a graduation party for a friend up in Kista (first time there!). Dinner was successful and I finished up the evening with a long walk around the neighborhood.

Tomorrow, I have to go into work (maybe I’ll take the bus?) and then back home to clean and do other stuff. Hopefully, I can manage my time well enough.
